This Green Cement Company Says its Product Can Cut Carbon Dioxide Emissions by Up to 70%
The title says it all. According to a recent article from CNBC (@CNBCi), there is a company now claiming to have developed “green” cement that promises to put a major dent in carbon dioxide emissions.
An interesting but little-known fact, cement releases very large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as it sets. In fact, “For every metric ton of cement produced, an equal amount of CO2 is released into the atmosphere,” says the article. This makes up about 8% of global emissions. But a new company has developed a different cement formula that shows a lot of promise.

China Constructs 1,000-Bed Emergency Coronavirus Hospital in Mere Days Amid Epidemic
At this point, none of us are strangers to the coronavirus epidemic sweeping the planet. At its epicenter is China, which has tens of thousands of infected citizens. Amid the crisis, comes a bit of good news. When times got tough, the nation was able to pull off an engineering marvel.
According to Newsweek (@Newsweek), In cooperation with the government, the Chinese construction agency constructed a 1,000-bed emergency hospital in just nine days in an effort to mitigate the impact of a virus that’s ravaging the city of Wuhan and the Hubei province. It goes to show what people are capable of when it matters most. There are talks of other hospitals soon to come as the number of infected continues to grow.
The Dotted Line: Legal Steps for Shutting Down a Dangerous Jobsite
In another interesting piece by ConstructionDive (@ConstructDive), the author takes a look at unsafe construction sites, who’ responsible, and the legal steps necessary to shut down either a contractor or the entire site if risk mitigation efforts are unsatisfactory. The article starts by mentioning that workplace safety is the responsibility of the contractor but everyone plays a part and has the authority to stop unsafe activities.
As such, if an employee sees a serious risk related to his or her job that hasn’t been addressed, or even someone else’s, it’s their responsibility to stop work and report it to a supervisor. Ultimately, everyone has worker safety as a top priority. Nobody wants to see someone get hurt on the job. With that said, there are a lot of legal hoops for contractors when it may not be clear who’s really liable to pay for the additional costs and delays associated with stopping operations, including pulling a crew, or equipment or both off of a project.
